RDG-Mack Oboe Shaper Tips
RDG has been in the precision manufacturing of fine shaper tips for decades. Through the most precise mechanical means we are able to guarantee our tips to within .002 in. of specs. Available in five different shapes ranging from #2 (wide) to #-1N (narrow). To see our shaper tip comparison chart, please click here.
The Mack tips were designed by John Mack and are produced by RDG. The M+ is the shape that Mr. Mack endorsed and used, and is also the design most oboists prefer. There is also the M, which is slightly narrower, the M++, which is a slightly wider shape.
The Mack-Pfeiffer is a reproduction of the original John Mack tip made by Freddy Pfeiffer. The manufacturer sampled over a half dozen original tips and then averaged the results to make sure we were being faithful to the original specifications.
The Brannen X is a popular shape measuring around 7.0 at the tip and 3.0 at the base (similar to the Gilbert # -1N but with more of a wide flare). To see our shaper tip comparison chart, please click here.
This tip lies in the middle of our comparative series, although the belly is narrower in proportion to the tip than most of the others. The tip is wider than the more contemporary RDG-Mack tips.
Shaper tips may not be sent out on trial. All returned shaper tips are subject to a 15% restocking fee.
